Professional MEGA Goaltending Instructors will introduce goaltending to our skaters and show them some basic goalie skills in a fun filled hour of introductory training. At the Mite/U8 level all skaters rotate through the goalie position during scrimmages so this exposes skaters interested in playing goalie to some of the fundamental skills goalies use.

GOALIE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

All items are required

GOALIE HELMET

  • Must be sized at the time of purchase to fit properly, no slop. The chinstrap must ALWAYS be fastened.
  • Must be of a design and construction to adequately protect the entire facial area. Must meet current regulations.
  • FACEMASK/CAGE
  • MOUTHGUARD
  • DANGLER – plastic shield to help protect the neck and collarbone area that isn’t protected by the helmet.

GOALIE CHEST PROTECTOR

  • Adjust to fit the individual at the time of the purchase. Fiber cap is extremely important in helping prevent shoulder separations and should extend to the tip of the shoulders.

BLOCKER

  • Properly fitted so that they do not slide

CATCHER

  • Check for proper fit with good finger and hand mobility. Do not buy oversize gloves for Mites and Squirts. At the younger ages, they have enough trouble learning how to handle a stick without large gloves adding to the problem.

GOALIE BREEZERS

  • Breezers are held in proper position by suspenders. Provide protection for lower spine, hips and thighs.

JOCK/JILL CUP

  • SUPPORTER & CUP is an essential protective equipment, check for proper fit.

LEG PADS

  • Check for proper length so they protect the knee and skin completely.

KNEE PADS

  • Help protect the kneecap and lower thigh area from getting hit by pucks.

GOALIE SKATES

  • Acquire to fit NOW with no more than ½ inch for growth. Seek adequate protection in the ankle, toe, and instep areas. Improperly fitted skates will hamper your child’s ability to skate. This is one area you do not want to economize on. A child’s hockey ability is based on good skating.

GOALIE STICK

  • Length should generally extend from the ice to the player’s chin (with skates on). Goalie preference as some like it longer. Quality and price differ greatly, so the choice is yours.

DONATE USED GEAR

Do you have gear your goalie has outgrown? Consider donating/selling it to HHA for future goalies to use. Contact Nichole to set up a time to meet and review your items. Please do not dump your used gear at the rink.
